Get rid of spammy comments – either delete them manually, or use a plugin like WP-SpamFree which virtually eliminates all comment spam.

Use .htaccess file to create a backlist of spammers – In this file, you can insert a list of IP’s to block and not allow any comments from them again. Perform a couple simple searches on Google, and you can find thousands of IP’s that are infamous spammers. By blocking them, you’ll have much less bandwidth usage and a happy web host.
